Averose is a small United Kingdom dress shop. We sell occasion dresses and nothing else: the dress for the party, the dinner, the christening, the awards evening, the birthday you actually want to mark. One category, done properly, rather than a bit of everything.
How Averose started
The brand began with a fairly ordinary problem. Looking for something to wear to an event is an exhausting job. You open twenty tabs of a giant retailer, wade through nine thousand results, and half of them are not really occasion dresses at all. The photographs are inconsistent, the descriptions say nothing you can use, and by the third evening you have stopped caring what you turn up in.
Averose came out of the opposite instinct: choose less, look at it properly, and describe it honestly. Everything that did not belong in an occasion wardrobe was taken out. If a dress is on this site, somebody looked at every photograph of it before it went live.
The address is in Middlesbrough, and that is where post reaches us. We are not going to pretend to be older or larger than we are.
Our mission
Our mission is to make finding an occasion dress a short job instead of a long one. That means a tight edit rather than an endless catalogue, product pages that tell you what a dress actually looks like, and no games with pricing. We do not run countdown timers, invented strike-through prices or stock-scarcity warnings, because a dress you buy under pressure is a dress you return.
It also means saying what we do not know. We describe what the photography shows: the neckline, the sleeve, the length, the pattern, the way the fabric falls. Where we cannot verify something, we leave it out rather than fill the gap with a guess.
Our vision
We would like Averose to become the place people in the United Kingdom think of first when there is an event in the diary and nothing in the wardrobe. Not the cheapest, not the biggest, but the one where the edit is trustworthy and the shopping takes an evening rather than a fortnight.
Longer term we want the collection to grow by depth rather than breadth: more of the shapes that work, in more colours and more lengths, instead of drifting into categories we have no business being in. Dresses are the whole point of this shop, and we intend to keep it that way.
How we choose the edit
The selection process is deliberately unglamorous. We start from a much larger supplier catalogue and work down. Demand and season come first: we check what people in the United Kingdom are actually searching for in the months ahead, so the shop leans towards the occasions that are coming rather than the ones that have passed.
Then comes the picture check. Every candidate is reviewed image by image. Anything whose photography is inconsistent, or which turns out to be casual wear wearing an occasion label, is dropped. Dresses carrying another brand's name or logo are dropped outright. Finally, each colour is matched to the photograph that actually shows that colour, so the image you see when you pick a shade is the right one. Nothing goes live until that mapping checks out.

Three things are fixed, and they are the same on every page of this site. Delivery within the United Kingdom is free on every order, with no minimum spend, and every parcel is tracked. We would rather promise three things and keep them than promise ten and quietly drop half.
What we sell
The shop is organised by the thing most people decide first: the length. Go straight to Maxi Dresses for floor-length, Midi Dresses for anything between mid-calf and the ankle, or Mini and Party Dresses for above the knee. Each dress sits in exactly one of those three, so nothing is listed twice. If you want the pieces with the most surface to them, the Sequin and Embellished edit cuts across all three lengths.
